On December 24, 1834, with the help of the deacons of the Baptist Church of Levant, founded 1828, community members founded the Congregational Church of Levant.  As community boundaries evolved in the mid-1800s, these churches became central to the establishment of the town.  Though other denominations and Christian sects were short-lived, the important faith alliance evolved through several variations of what is now Kenduskeag Union Church.
